Are you one of those people that, like me, invests a lot of time in front of the computer? And then after a whole day sitting down you ask “why do I have this annoying back pain?”

Recent studies from Harvard–Brigham and Women’s Hospital, are alerting us to the impact that sitting for long hours every day has on our body. Researchers say that our lifespan is shortening because of the many illnesses that can arise from spending all day sitting: heart disease, hip imbalance, back and neck pain, problems with our shoulders and also our respiratory system, among others.

The most alarming part of these studies is that they all point out that it doesn’t matter how much time we spend at the gym after work; that time will never counterbalance the effects of spending all day in a sitting position.

But there are some solutions. Scientists say that what can really help with the effects of sitting is to simply stand up every 20 to 30 minutes for about 20 seconds. That is enough to tune up the body.

The neck and the shoulders suffer quite a lot due to excessive sitting. So, feeling some urgency around this subject, I decided to share with you my three favorite exercise to reduce stress after long hours of sitting. For them to have real effect it’s very important that you do them standing up, and every 30 minutes.
